Information UV protection

The Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating system indicates the UV protection a fabric provides. The skin is protected from UVA and UVB rays, even at high altitudes or after many hours outdoors.

The sun protection factor (UPF) indicates how much longer the wearer of UV clothing can stay in the sun without suffering skin damage, comparable to the protection offered by sunscreen. The calculation of the protection time depends on the UV index. The so-called intrinsic protection time of the skin, which varies according to skin type, is important for this, as are the intensity of the sun's rays, the time of year and day and the location (city / sea / mountains).

The denser the material and the more skin is covered, the greater the protective effect of the garment. In addition, fabrics can be given additional finishing to provide even greater protection. Kjus products with UV protection are recognizable by the symbol and a woven label on the garment.

Test standard

Starting from collection autumn / winter 20/21 all styles are tested according to AS/NZ 4399.

Information personal protective equipment (PPE)

Kjus products with UV protection comply with the regulation (EU) 2016/425 for personal protective equipment, which came into force on 21 April 2018.

The definition is (Art. 3(1a)): “equipment designed and manufactured to be worn or held by a person for protection against one or more risks to that person's health or safety;” PPE is divided into three categories (I, II and III) and UV protection belongs to category I. This category designates simple PPE, for protection against minimal risks, Annex I, Category I, paragraph (e): "atmospheric conditions that are not of an extreme nature".

For each product there is an EU Declaration of Conformity, by which Kjus takes responsibility for ensuring that the clothing meets the requirements of the regulation.

How do I find the declaration of conformity?

The UV protection of a garment can be recognized by the CE logo. The style number is used to identify the appropriate declaration of conformity.
