Why Bond Fabric with a Protein? 

Collagen is a vital protein that serves as a primary building block of the body’s connective tissues, including skin, tendons, ligaments, and bones. Within the skin, it resides in the dermis layer, forming a fibrous network that provides structure, strength, and elasticity. When skin is damaged, whether from the elements or simply aging, supplementing with collagen can improve hydration, enhance elasticity, and relieve dryness. Recognising these benefits, our designers turned to collagen as they explored new ways to develop moisture-renewing fabric.

Moisture Renewal Technology

With KJUS' Moisture Renewal technology, collagen is bonded directly to the fabric. By integrating collagen into the garment, not simply adding a finish, we ensure that the benefits of the collagen will not wash out over time. 

When worn, the collagen acts as a humectant, drawing moisture from the air, bringing it to the fabric surface where your skin can then absorb the moisture. For example, if you’re golfing in Arizona’s dry climate, the collagen-bonded fabric helps maintain moisture at the skin level, enhancing comfort and reducing the risk of dryness. This is important not only for staying comfortable, but also for skin protection, as dry skin is more prone to sunburn than well-hydrated skin. In a humid environment, the technology harnesses the existing moisture in the air, optimising hydration to keep your skin feeling refreshed.

Collagen Bonded Clothing 

We integrate collagen technology across a range of KJUS garments. If a golf product features Moisture Renewal technology, it’s bonded throughout the piece. In ski jackets, we apply it selectively in high-contact areas like the cuffs and collar, where the fabric touches your face.  Cold temperatures and wind can be harsh to your skin so adding collagen in these strategic areas helps protect against chapping and wind burn in winter conditions.

Some of the most unique pieces we have with Moisture Renewal technology are the women’s Collagen Treggings and Straight Trousers. These garments combine the tailored look and structure of a traditional trouser but have incredible stretch and softness. The collagen infusion not only provides a luxurious feel, but also actively protects and moisturises your skin in any conditions.  

We also spent years developing a fabric that balanced sun protection and breathability, which we used in the Collagen Long-Sleeve Polo. By integrating Moisture Renewal technology into a mesh structure, we achieved an ultra-light, breathable feel while maintaining UPF 50 protection. The combination of sun protection and collagen infusion makes this polo a game-changer. 

One thing we hear time and again is how unbelievably soft these garments are. People pick them up and immediately ask how we made them so soft. The answer is many years of dedication to developing this specialised collagen technology.
