Lofoten Links Showcase: Why the Course is a top Golf Destination

Lofoten Links isn’t just another scenic golf course—it’s an unforgettable destination set on the rugged northern coastline of Gimsøya, one of Norway’s most dramatic islands. Framed by mountains, beaches, and the Norwegian Sea, this championship 18-hole course offers a rare combination of natural beauty, technical challenge, and bucket-list golf experiences.

A Golf Experience Under the Midnight Sun

How many golf courses in the world can claim to offer a full 24 hours of play time? Well, at the spectacular 18-hole Lofoten Links course on Norway’s northern island of Gimsøya, you can play golf in 24 hours of light between June and July during the Midnight Sun.

The Midnight Sun is a natural phenomenon where the sun never sets. During these months, golfers can tee off at any time with uninterrupted daylight casting a surreal glow over the course and ocean.

This extraordinary environment makes Lofoten Links a destination for golfers seeking something beyond traditional play: extended rounds, surreal lighting conditions, and a once-in-a-lifetime experience only possible north of the Arctic Circle.

Course Design: Challenging, Rewarding, and Harmonised With Nature

Navigate the challenging but rewarding course where the ocean features as a water hazard on several holes and natural sandy-beach bunkers are found on the rest.

Lofoten Links is known for its dramatic layout that integrates seamlessly with its coastal surroundings. Every hole offers sweeping sea views and exposure to the wind, making club selection and shot shaping essential skills.

Signature Holes

Hole 2

This signature hole appears early at the 140-metre 2nd, where a two-tiered green sits atop a rocky outcrop, fronted by a solitary pot bunker. One of the most photographed par threes in Europe, this hole demands precision as wind and elevation changes influence shot path.

Hole 16

The longest and toughest par four on the course is found on the back nine with a 430-metre 16th. Swing through its blind tee shot from the back markers with the hole played downhill between a narrowing fairway. This hole rewards careful positioning and shot control, testing even seasoned players with its narrowing landing areas.

Recognition Rankings

Lofoten Links recently ranked as the best golf course in Scandinavia and the 6th best in continental Europe by Golf World’s Top 100 Courses list of 2022. These rankings reflect the course’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s premier golfing experiences and a must-play destination for enthusiasts seeking dramatic, world-class conditions.
